Old news (yes, an oxymoron...)

This post is an archive of the previous news that were on the website before its revamp.

  • 2017-01-01 : Advene was in a maintenance mode these last years, with no active development, only bugfixing. Thanks to a collaboration with HPI and FUB, it is now actively developped again.\ The code will first be updated to match the most recent libraries that it depends on (gtk3, gstreamer1), and new features will be introduced.
  • 2013-01-06 : Advene was presented during the poster session of MMM2014 in Dublin.
  • 2012-07-04 : The article CHM: an Annotation- and Component-based Hypervideo Model for the Web has been accepted for publication in Multimedia Tools and Applications.
  • 2012-06-21 : The article Advene as a Tailorable Hypervideo Authoring Tool: a Case Study has been accepted for DocEng 2012. See you in Paris.
  • 2012-04-16 / 2012-04-20 : The Advene team is present at WWW2012. Demo at the CNRS booth on Wed. 18, but you can also contact us by mail or Twitter to get in touch.
  • 2012-01-15 : Advene is now available in the Debian distribution, no need to download specific files. The same package works for Ubuntu too.
  • 2012-01-26 : Platform-specific update of Advene 1.0.2 for Windows. It fixes a bug when installing on windows XP/Vista (DLL dependencies).
  • 2012-01-02 : Platform-specific update of Advene 1.0.1 for Windows. It fixes a bug in the file import GUI.
  • 2011-12-21 : Release of Advene 1.0! See the Download section. This release marks the end of a series that has been stable for a long time, but never earned its major release number. This version now enters a maintenance state, while development focuses on the next major version (new data model, interface revamp to handle simultaneous analysis of multiple video files...).\ Among the new features, integrates an interface to the pocketsphinx speech recognition software. Annotations can now be modified either from the timeline inspector, or from table views (in addition to previous interfaces).
  • 2011-09-21 : WebCHM, a development of the Advene project, has been presented at DocEng 2011 in Mountain View. There has also been Advene demos about the ACAV project.
  • 2011-09-08 : WebCHM, a development of the Advene project, has been presented at MMWeb 2011 in Graz (Austria).
  • 2011-07-13 : The Advene project has been presented during RMLL, on Wednesday 13 july at 15h20.
  • 2011-04-06 : Release of Advene 0.46. See the Download section. Among the new features, this release integrates new audio/video extraction algorithms such as face detection, audio waveform generation or silence detection. The interface has been improved in many areas, based on users requests/suggestions.
  • 2010-10-18 to 2010-10-22 : Experimental research workshop at the ENBA, in the context of the DataData project.
  • 2010-09-13 : Release of Advene 0.44. See the Download section. Among the new features, the website export can generate HTML5 <video> tags, timecode display format can be customised, the player control interface and shortcuts has been revamped, and many interface improvements have been integrated.
  • 2010-06-10 : Release of Advene 0.42. See the Download section. It brings graphics (SVG) overlay over the video, the ability to synchronously play multiple video files, a new shot validation interface for frame-precise adjustments, as well as many improvements.
  • 2010-03-12 : Call for feedback and suggestions.
  • 2010-02-26 : Release of Advene 0.40. See the Download section. gstreamer is now used on all platforms.
  • 2010-02-11 : Advene has been demoed to the secretary of state Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet.
  • 2010-01-15 : Amaury Belin has joined the team as PhD student on the CineCast project.
  • 2009-11-01 : Madjid Sadallah (from CERIST, Alger) has joined the team for a master's degree internship and will work on view generation.
  • 2009-09-15 : the ACAV project has been acccepted.
  • 2009-09-03 : (french) Proposition d'un sujet de thèse dans le cadre du projet CineCast.
  • 2009-07-31 : The CineCast project has been accepted.
  • 2009-05-02 : we annotated Tim Berners Lee's TED talk, and produced an online hypervideo which features direct video access through transcription, RDF export, etc.
  • 2009-03-16 : Release of Advene 0.38. See the Download section. It mainly integrates bug fixes (especially in the HTML editor) and some usability enhancements.
  • 2009-01-09 : Advene seminar at Journées d'Etude LARA 2009
  • 2009-01-05 : Release of Advene 0.36. See the Download section. It integrates the shotdetect application, and can display an activity trace to provide a feedback about the current activity. A new Edition history view displays the last edited/created elements. Static views can be exported as static HTML files, so that video analyses can be uploaded to a website. The MacOS X version now uses the gstreamer video player, which offers frame-by-frame navigation.

  • 2008-08-25 : Release of Advene 0.34. See the Download section. It features the long-awaited undo feature (when editing annotations, views and queries), as well as an integrated basic WYSIWYG HTML editor, which allows to easily create basic comments on annotations.
  • 2008-07-04 : Release of Advene 0.32. See the Download section. Along with the usual usability enhancements, it offers new video control shortcuts (numeric keypad), Braille display support through brltty (if is it installed and configured), speech synthesis support through eSpeak (http://espeak.sourceforge.net/). The workspace can be automatically saved and restored with the package. It also fixes bugs found in previous Win32 versions.
  • 2008-05-21 : Release of Advene 0.30. See the Download section. Along with the usual usability enhancements, it offers a new ActiveBookmarks view that allows to create annotations through the definition (Insert or Alt-Space shortcut) and interactive reorganisation of bookmarks. The Play/pause shortcut has been changed to Control-Tab in order not to interfere with standard shortcut behaviour. New actions are available in dynamic views: Braille (braille output of annotations), OpenStaticView, state-related actions.
  • 2008-02-13 : Release of Advene 0.28. See the Download section. Along with the usual usability enhancements, version 0.28 offers a new finder view a-la MacOS X, a more flexible quicksearch behaviour (ability to specify multiple keywords, to exclude keywords...). The timeline view now supports selecting a range of annotations, displays screenshots along the timescale and offers the possibility to navigate to the next/previous annotation in a given type.\ New actions are available in dynamic views: Pronounce (text-to-speech synthesis of the annotation contents), PlaySoundClip, PopupGotoOutgoingRelated (displays a navigation popup based on relations).
  • 2007-11-29 : Bugfix release 0.26a for the win32 platform. The 0.26 version had a bug which prevented the creation of relations between annotations.
  • 2007-11-21 : Release of Advene 0.26. See the Download section. Along with many usability enhancements, version 0.26 offers a new virtual montage view, many improvements in the timeline for viewing and editing/organising annotations. Text autocompletion has been generalized to the note-taking editor. Result of searches can be converted into montages or new annotations. Dynamic views editing is improved by the availability of common predefined values and the ability to activate multiple dynamic views. Importers for MPEG7 (FreeTextAnnotations), Anvil and AnnotationGraph have been added.
  • 2007-11-12 : Presentation of Advene at the workshop Interfaces for annotation and manipulation of temporal objects: comparing of tools and paradigms in the musical and cinemaographic domains, IRCAM, Paris
  • 2007-09-28: the win32 VLC version needed for the 0.24 version of Advene has been updated. Make sure to download the 20070901-svn-win32.exe version. Our aim is to use a standard version of VLC, but technical issues prevent that for the moment.
  • 2007-09-27: Advene presentation and demonstration at the Open Source contest at ACM Multimedia 2007
  • 2007-09-20: version 0.24 has been released, with a MacOS X installer! See the Download section. The website has undergone a major revision, with a new appearance and screencasts demonstrating some of Advene features.
  • 2007-06-07: version 0.23 has been released! See the Download section

  • 2006-11-01: Master Research training course proposal: Semantic argumentation in Advene
